Chillin’ at the Canada Games Speed Skating Oval - Visitation Opportunity

(Friday, December 3, 2010) - Construction of the Canada Games Oval on the North Common is nearing completion. The Canada Games Oval will be the largest artificial ice surface east of Quebec City and will be featured as HRM’s marquee outdoor venue for the Halifax 2011 Canada Games from February 11th to 27th.

The venue is now primed for the installation of the ice. The ice installation crew from Calgary will begin the ice making process on Monday, December 6th, 2010. Media are invited to visit the Canada Games Speed Skating Oval on Tuesday, December 7th, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. to see the ice making in progress and to view the Oval in its final stages of preparation. The Oval is scheduled to open to the public in mid-December with a host of skating programs and events leading up to the Games.

Mayor Peter Kelly, Games CEO Chris Morrissey, and additional representatives from HRM and Canada Games, as well as the ice crew will be available to answer questions.
