HRM-Solar City Pre-screening Begins Tomorrow at 10 a.m.

(Tuesday, December 14, 2010) - Pre-screening registration for the proposed community solar project, HRM-Solar City, begins tomorrow morning (Dec. 15th) at 10 a.m.

Sign-up is online at halifax.ca/solarcity. A link to the form will be live as of 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. Interested participants are encouraged to visit halifax.ca/solarcity in advance to review the information required to complete the online form.

On November 2nd, Regional Council granted approval for HRM staff to proceed with next steps to develop the project proposal. If approved by Council, the proposed community solar project would help residents take advantage of the municipality’s significant solar energy potential without having to become an expert in the technology or navigate the technical and financing options.

Through the proposed pilot program, between 500 and 700 HRM homeowners would be eligible to sign-up on a first come, first serve basis, to have two solar hot water panels installed on their property. They would repay the cost for panels and installation as a supplement to their tax bill.

Information sessions held over the past three weeks gave participants an opportunity to learn more about the program and speak directly with HRM staff. The sessions were part of the process of finalizing the pilot project proposal to present to Council early in the New Year.

More information can be found online at halifax.ca/solarcity.
