CANADA GAMES CENTRE ANNOUNCES BOARD OF DIRECTORS

(January 14, 2011) - The Halifax Regional Municipality is proud to announce the names of its community volunteer Board of Directors. Chaired by Ann Cosgrove, local business woman and experienced executive director in the non-profit sector, the Board represents a broad range of skills, personalities, and passions from across HRM.

Cosgrove is enthusiastic about her role as Chair and is looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead. "We live in such a vibrant and diverse community and serving as the first Chair of the Board of Directors of the new Canada Games Centre is such an honour.” says Cosgrove. She adds, “Together, we will continue to build a strong, healthy and sustainable community where families and people of all ages come together in a spirit of sport and wellness."

Cosgrove is joined by a team of dedicated volunteers from across HRM, representing the education, medical, business and legal sectors. The remaining Board members are Colin Piercey (Vice Chair), Byron Rafuse (Treasurer), Mary Smith (Secretary), Chris Yetman, Kemble Flynn, Brian Lane, Dr. William Stanish, and Audrey Matheson.

Paul Dunphy, Director of Community Development for HRM, is extremely pleased to have such a talented and diverse group of people to guide the Centre and its staff. According to Dunphy, “Our Board epitomizes the Canada Games Centre. Just as the Centre has something for everyone, our Board really represents everyone - we have parents, seniors, teachers, executives, young professionals and even grandparents. Our Board represents the very people that will be using our facility and building a community legacy with their families and friends”.
