Winter Curbside Solid Waste Collection

(Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011) - With winter weather upon us, HRM is providing the following guidance regarding curbside solid waste collection through the winter:

- When placing your green cart curbside, please keep it out of the path of the snowplow. Remember that your collector needs to be able to reasonably access your green cart for collection.

- Keep garbage and recycling bags out of the path of snowplows. If a storm is occurring through the evening and night, this may mean placing bags curbside (before 7:00 am) on collection day rather than placing them for collection the night before. Broken bags may not be collected, and clean up is your responsibility.

- Clear an area adjacent to your driveway and/or on your property but near the curb for placement of solid waste materials. Collection staff cannot climb over snowbanks to pick up material.
