Games Time Traffic and Parking Tips

(February 11, 2011) HRM wishes to remind residents and visitors to plan ahead for parking and traffic when travelling to the events and venues of the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

Some streets in the downtown will be closed to vehicular traffic and others will have parking exclusions in whole or in part due to Games-related activity. Visit the Canada Games website for a detailed list of street closures and parking exclusions including a map: www.canadagames2011.ca/site-cg/media/canadagames2011/Transport%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf.

Metro Transit
HRM encourages residents to consider Metro Transit for traveling to the Games. Look for special Canada Games Metro Transit service flyers on buses and at retail outlets for a guide on how to take advantage of transit to Canada Games venues in HRM. Each Games venue is listed with details on the sporting events being hosted, as well as the best routes to get you there and back.

In addition, full event 'Games Pass' holders will have free access to all Metro Transit services by showing their pass upon boarding the bus or ferry. Free access is also extended to Canada Games volunteers and athletes by displaying an accreditation badge February 11-27 inclusive.

For more detailed information visit www.halifax.ca/metrotransit.

Parking Options
Because of parking exclusions in the downtown core, residents may want to consider alternate parking solutions in the downtown. A Park Smart map for downtown Halifax can be found online at: http://www.halifax.ca/SkateHRM/VisitorInformation/documents/Park_Smart_2009_FINAL.pdf.

The Halifax waterfront also features paid parking lots. Vist the Waterfront Development Corporation website for information: https://my-waterfront.ca/services/parking.

Be Prepared for Weather
Celebration Square noon and evening entertainment will not be cancelled due to weather. HRM urges residents to use caution when travelling during severe weather. Visit halifax.ca/ snow for weather and snow clearing updates.
