District Energy Trench Construction Continues

(Friday, April 1, 2011) - Phase 2 of the construction work on the district energy trench between Halifax Regional Police Headquarters and Centennial Pool will commence on Monday, April 4th, 2011 and is anticipated to be completed by Wednesday, April 13th, 2011. To facilitate the digging of the trench Gottingen Street will be closed to through traffic from Rainnie Drive to Cogswell Street. Drivers will be able to access the Centennial Pool driveway from Rainnie Drive but not from Cogswell Street.

This district energy trench is testament to HRM’s commitment to a healthy, sustainable and vibrant community as it will facilitate the exchange of energy between the two municipally owned buildings. Fifty-five solar panels have recently been installed on the roof of the police headquarters and forty-eight panels will be installed on Centennial Pool in the coming weeks. The police headquarters have also recently converted to natural gas and this conduit will allow this energy to flow to Centennial Pool.
