Two HRM Requests for Proposals for the Arts
OPEN PROJECTS 2011-2012
The Halifax Regional Municipality invites artists, designers, musicians, performers, curators and members of the public with a creative interest and an investment in HRM civic spaces to submit public realm arts proposals through their Open Projects program.
The Open Projects program encourages ‘moments of opportunity’: elements and instances in lived environments that exhibit potential for strategic interaction. Interactions may include the re-animation of an underutilized space such as a vacant lot in the downtown core, or an unoccupied storefront. They may involve a relational re-consideration of the natural environment and the opportunities provided by HRM’s close proximity to water. They may be situational opportunities, such as alignment with a pre-existing arts initiative or a partnership with another institution or public-sector funding agent.

In exchange, organizations are responsible for the administrative support required to host an artist-in-residence. This includes the selection process, residency logistics and organization, program promotion, and any residency related programming.
