Earth Day Activities in HRM
(April 20, 2011) - In the lead up to Earth Day - April 22 - HRM is partnering with the Adventure Earth Centre youth group known as H.E.A.T. (Helping the Earth and Acting Together) to reward residents for doing good things to help protect our planet.
Members of H.E.A.T., on behalf of HRM Solid Waste Resources, are going to be patrolling the streets for individuals who Get Caught Recycling in their community during the week. They may spot someone in a shopping mall or along our city streets. If they find an individual recycling, picking up litter, using a reusable coffee mug, or doing other small but important actions beneficial to our future, they will be thanking them with a small token of appreciation.
HRM’s Adventure Earth Centre is also holding a public performance this evening (Apr. 20) of the award-winning program “Mindshift”. MindShift is all about SHIFTING our culture toward environmental sustainability. It is a youth-designed and youth-led program which aims to make a sustainable difference in schools and communities. The free performance will be held at the Potter Auditorium at Dalhousie University (7:30 pm). Donations to the Earth Centre’s “Green Child Fund” are welcome.
Remember, you can contact Clean Nova Scotia to organize a neighbourhood litter clean-up as part of the Great NS Pick Me Up or join HRM Councillors and staff for various Earth Day activities throughout the week. For more information go to: www.halifax.ca ( http://www.halifax.ca/ ).
