HRM Bike Rack Design Competition Winners Announced

(April 21, 2011) - Be on the lookout for a new bike rack at the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal this summer. Titled “Splash”, the dolphin-shaped rack was submitted by grade seven student, Aelyn Murphy, of the Halifax Independent School. Judged alongside submissions by professionals, Splash’s sleek and functional design will be a great addition to the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal and will complement the increasingly active lifestyles of those who live, work and shop in Downtown Dartmouth. The Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission sponsored the competition and announced the winners just before a noon-hour Earth Day walk on Wednesday, April 20th.

The selection panel also chose a second winning design called “Metro Bike Rack”, which was inspired by the Metro Transit blue and yellow logo. The simple and modern design, submitted by industrial designer Carolyn Clegg, has been passed along to Metro Transit staff who are considering the design for transit terminals.
