HRM Grass Cutting and Dandelion Maintenance
(Friday, May 20, 2011) - With springtime’s warmer temperatures and the recent rainy weather, HRM is experiencing a major growth spurt for grass. Municipal grass cutting and turf maintenance programs, which focus exclusively on HRM-owned property, are currently underway.
HRM would like to remind property owners to please keep their grass cut and well-maintained. Abutting property owners are responsible to maintain any grass between the curb and sidewalk. Grass should be closely clipped to a height not greater than six inches (15 cm), and property owners are required to keep these areas in good order, including raking and renewal of the grass, as necessary.
HRM is also currently experiencing the first growth period of the season for dandelions. There is typically a second flush during late summer when the temperatures start to cool. HRM’s schedule for grass mowing started on May 8th and it will continue through to October 22nd.This ongoing maintenance will address the issue of dandelions and weeds on municipally owned property. It usually takes two to three mowing cycles, depending on the cutting schedule, to get through the spring flush of dandelions.
HRM thanks you for your cooperation.
