HRM Celebrates Bike Week 2011

(Friday, May 27, 2011) - Join us at Bike Week 2011, a 10-day festival with more than 30 events throughout HRM! Whether you're an avid cyclist, or looking to hop back in the saddle after many years, you're sure to find an event for you! Bike Week activities will take place throughout HRM from Friday, May 27th until Sunday June 5th.

• Bike Week Kick-off Party, Friday May 27th: Get a feel for the cycling community at this fun-filled event. Join us for a ride around Point Pleasant Park (6pm Tower Road entrance), and end up at the Seaport Market for International Night (7pm) for International cuisine and some bike-themed entertainment.

• Need a bike? No problem! Find a bike that’s right for you at one of two bike auctions being held on Saturday May 28th (Devonshire Arena) and Saturday June 4th (Bloomfield Centre).

• Try it out! Head on over to a CAN-BIKE course on Saturday May 28th at the Findlay Centre in Dartmouth to improve your riding skills.

• Celebrate! Bring your bike, friends and family to the Open Street Party on Sunday May 29th at the Halifax North Common. Streets will be closed to traffic (this includes all inside lanes around the North Common on the Common side affecting Cogswell, Robie, Cunard and North Park from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - outside lanes remain open to traffic, one way) and open to bicyclists, skateboarders, runners, rollerbladers and all non-motorized movers! Enjoy music, a distance bike challenge, children’s activities, and more!

HRM Bike Week aims to celebrate, educate and increase participation in all types of cycling throughout the region. It’s an exciting, community-driven event encouraging people of all ages and abilities to get outside and be more active. Last year, more than 4500 residents participated in over 30 Bike Week events held throughout HRM.
