Central Library Activity - Tree Removal Scheduled
(June 14, 2011) - Some additional trees have been scheduled for removal from the Central Library site at the corner of Spring Garden Road and Queen Street. The activity will take place near the Eastern property boundary between the Central Library site and the existing Dalhousie Faculty of Architecture building. The trees consist of one 24-inch diameter tree, one 12-inch diameter tree and several small saplings. The work will begin on Thursday after 8 a.m. weather dependent.
Specifically, the trees are being removed due to their location near an existing electrical transformer and because they are within the construction zone footprint of the Central Library. The removal is taking place at this time in order to accommodate work needed on the transformer and for storm-water control due to grade alteration which will take place as part of the archaeological assessment on the property.
Development of the Central Library will include the installation of new landscaping throughout the property. The landscaping plan will include healthy new trees, vegetation and green space. Development of this plan is expected to be complete this summer and will be posted to the Central Library website.
Construction activity on the Central Library is expected to begin this summer and be completed in 2013, with the Library opening in 2014. More information about the Central Library is available at halifaxcentrallibrary.ca.
