Celebrate Summer with the Public Gardens Concert Series

(Thursday, June 16, 2011) - HRM and the Spring Garden Area Business Association invite you to celebrate summer in the Halifax Public Gardens. The Gardens will be hosting free concerts every Sunday at 2 p.m. starting on June 19th and running until Sunday, September 11th 2011.

“The Spring Garden Area Business Association is proud to partner with HRM on the upcoming Summer Concert Series in the Public Gardens. Spring Garden Area is the home to many locally owned independent businesses, so our support for local musicians through this venue is a natural fit,” said Nancy Tissington, Executive Director of the Spring Garden Area Business Association. “We invite those coming to the concerts to enjoy the many offerings of our area before or after the Sunday concerts and there’s plenty of free parking available.”

The Summer Concert Series will take place every Sunday until September 11th from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Public Gardens Bandstand.

“The Summer Concert Series in Public Gardens is a great way to enjoy the historical Victoria Jubilee Bandstand,” said Councillor Dawn Sloane. “We recently restored the bandstand, bringing it back to its original structure. We hope many people enjoy its natural beauty and encourage citizens to experience Public Gardens and the Summer Concert Series.”
The 16-acre Public Gardens, one of the finest examples of a formal Victorian Garden in North America, has been receiving visitors since 1867. Since that time it has hosted visiting royalty and dignitaries and has become a backdrop for countless family, wedding, and prom photographs. It is a lush oasis in the heart of the downtown that many people and organizations have worked very hard to protect.

Concert Schedule is as follows:

Mike Cowie - June 19th
Garth Proude Band - June 26th
Shirley Jackson and the Sidecats - July 3rd
Graham Bowser Band - July 10th
Al Fine Little Big Band - July 17th
