Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition this Sunday

(Thursday, August 11, 2011) - On Sunday, August 14, Clam Harbour Beach Provincial Park will play host to the 33rd Annual Clam Harbour Beach Sandcastle Competition. Each year, the event attracts over 10,000 residents and visitors to the Lake Charlotte Area of Halifax Regional Municipality.

Improved signage, more parking opportunities, and a complimentary shuttle service to and from the beach along Clam Harbour Road will contribute to an even more enjoyable experience for both contestants and spectators.

Contestants can compete in three categories: Team, Adult and Children under 12. Prizes will be awarded in each category for best sandcastle and best sand sculpture. There is also a People’s Choice Award. The guest sculptor for this year’s competition is Ben Waterman of Prince Edward Island.

Schedule:
9:00 am - Park Gates Open
9:30 am - Shuttle Bus Service Starts
11:00 am - Acoustic sounds of Christine Campbell
1:00 pm -"BIG FISH" performing on the Main Stage
3:00 pm - Judging Begins
4:30 pm - Awarding of Prizes
6:30 pm - Shuttle Service stops

Food and refreshments can be purchased on site at the Food Village. New this year is the Family Fun Zone at the Park Interpretation Centre. The Discovery Centre’s Sci-On-The-Fly exhibit will host slimy science, bubble trouble and rockets to the sky. Plus, the Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia’s Outreach Program will have hands on fun with Nova Scotia’s local aquaculture.
