Traditions Writing and Art Contest (Ages 5-11)
Monday, August 15, 2011 - Halifax Regional Municipality wants to learn about family traditions that are important to children in our region. The Traditions Writing and Art Contest seeks creative submissions from children ages 5 to 11 which demonstrate their family traditions through both pictures and words.
In one page or less, children will answer one of the four questions below in a written statement and include an original piece of artwork (drawing, painting, photograph, etc.) to illustrate their answer. The questions are:
1. What activities do you enjoy doing with your parents that they did as children with your grandparents?
2. What is the best story your parents or grandparents ever told you about their experiences growing up?
3. What do you like to see and/or do when you are outside in nature?
4. Do you have a family object that has been passed down through generations that is meaningful to you and your family?
Answers will contribute to the development of HRM’s Social Heritage Strategy. Winning entries will be posted on www.halifax.ca, www.hrmyouth.ca and the Cultural Affairs facebook page. Prizes include a Nova Scotia Museum Family Pass and Nimbus children’s books by local authors.
Submission deadline: Sunday, September 11, 2011
For full contest details and submission guidelines, please visit www.halifax.ca/Culture/socialheritage.
The Traditions Writing and Art Contest is one of several community engagement activities being used to inform the development of HRM’s first Social Heritage Strategy. Community feedback will be used to help determine HRM’s direction, purpose, and role in developing social heritage programs and partnerships.
