HRM Mayor Peter Kelly offers condolences at death of Jack Layton

 

(August 22, 2011) Halifax – Mayor Peter Kelly has offered the condolences of Council and the residents of HRM to the wife and family of former NDP leader, Jack Layton, who died earlier today.

Mayor Kelly described Mr. Layton as a courageous politician who never gave up, despite the challenges that he faced.

“He led his party to official Opposition status while battling ill health,” said the mayor. “It was a remarkable achievement and I am saddened that Mr. Layton did not live long enough to enjoy his well-deserved success.”
