Mayor Kelly to proclaim Brad Marchand Day

 

(August 29, 2011) Halifax – Mayor Peter Kelly will declare today (Monday, August 29) Brad Marchand Day throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality, marking the local hockey hero’s return to his roots.

The Boston Bruins’ star forward helped his team capture this year’s Stanley Cup and he will have the trophy with him for his visit to HRM.

“We are all really proud of Brad and his accomplishments,” said Mayor Kelly. “He is a talented hockey player whose on-ice skills are a great inspiration, especially to the youngsters of our community.”

Mayor Kelly noted that Marchand has played local, minor and midget hockey, as well as in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and is also a two-time Canadian Junior Hockey Gold Medalist.

Marchand is from the Hammonds Plains/Upper Tantallon area of HRM where the homecoming celebrations will conclude, Monday afternoon.
