Blasting to take place on Central Library site
(September 16, 2011) - As part of the Central Library construction excavation activity, HRM’s contractor will conduct blasting beginning on Tuesday, September 20th on the site at the corner of Spring Garden Road and Queen Street. The work is expected to take two weeks and will not take place on weekends.
It is expected that three charges will be set each day at approximately 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. For safety reasons, each blast will require short traffic stops of three to five minutes each for both pedestrians and vehicles within a safety zone surrounding the site. Those expecting to travel in the area around the Central Library site at those times are encouraged to consider alternate routes to avoid delays.
Before each charge, three long horn notifications will be given. Once the blast is complete, one long horn notification will indicate that all is clear. Those in the area at the time may hear the blasts and feel slight vibrations.
Blasting in HRM requires a permit issued by HRM that complies with HRM’s blasting bylaw (B-600). For more information on blasting or on the Central Library project, visit halifaxcentrallibrary.ca.
