HRM Tracking Weather Event

(Thursday, February 16, 2012) - HRM is tracking a weather event that is set to hit the Halifax region on Friday evening. The current forecast is for 5 to 10 centimetres of snow or rain.

Staff will continue to watch this system and will advise if the overnight winter parking ban will be in effect for Friday night by mid-afternoon tomorrow.

HRM residents can get updates on the parking ban through Public Service Announcements, halifax.ca, 490-4000 or by following us on Twitter “@hfxgov”.

Once the ban is in effect, weather and snow clearing operations will dictate how long it remains. Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event. Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.

HRM requests that residents remove any street obstructions whenever possible during snow clearing operations. Items such as basketball nets and organic green carts hinder proper snow clearing and can result in damage to property and equipment.

HRM thanks you for your cooperation.
