(Friday, March 9, 2012) – HRM can no longer sustain the ice at the Emera Oval due to weather fluctuations common at this time of year. Therefore, as of today, March 9th, the Emera Oval is closed for the season. Last year the oval closed on March 4th.
The season was a great success. Approximately 130,000 skaters enjoyed a skate on the oval since it opened on December 23rd. Early next week crews will begin dismantling the site.
A public information session will take place in the near future to seek additional input from the public on potential further development of the site. A session was also held in October 2011. Residents are also encouraged to participate in an online survey that will remain posted at halifax.ca until March 31st.
