8th Annual Welcome BBQ - a multicultural festival for all
Thursday, July 4, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – HRM, in association with many community partners, is pleased to present the 8th Annual Welcome BBQ this weekend.
When: Saturday, July 6, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Where: South Commons (by the playground), Halifax
Rain or Shine
Mayor Mike Savage will be on hand to welcome participants of this free, family-friendly event.
Entertainment will be provided by Rebecca Moore; El Jones, HRM’s Poet Laureate; Samba Nova; Concrete Roots: Next Generation Breaking Battle and Popping Dance Demo; Hickey G; Chiedza; Korean Drum Band; Sari Belly Dance; and, Konyon Cash. Participants will enjoy hotdogs, fresh corn, sweet potato, and cake - all served by volunteers!
There will be plenty for the kids to do on site such as face painting, soccer, badminton, parachute games and free books, as well as a demonstration by the Halifax Regional Police K-9 Unit and access to a Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency truck.
The Welcome BBQ is planned and delivered each year by a committee representing many organizations that serve newcomers in our region. Approximately 1000 newcomers and other residents participated in this event last year.
