Election signage in HRM
Tuesday, September 10, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – With a month-long provincial election campaign now upon us, HRM is taking this opportunity to remind residents and candidates that campaign signs should be on private property – with permission from the property owner.
Campaign signs are not permitted in HRM parks or on facilities owned or managed by HRM. Signs are also not allowed to be attached to HRM property, utility poles, or on municipal trees.
Signs must not obstruct the view for motorists and pedestrians at intersections and driveways, and signs are discouraged on municipal streets and street medians or islands.
Residents are asked to call 3-1-1 if they see campaign signs that could compromise pedestrian or vehicular safety.
Other than issues concerning safety, questions relating to campaign signage should be directed to the respective candidate’s office.
All election signs must be removed within one week following the provincial election on Oct. 8, 2013.
