HRM gets ready to rock out on Canada Day

Thursday, June 20, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Musicians from across the country are tuning up to perform for HRM audiences at this year’s official Canada Day events being held on Monday, July 1, in celebration of Canada’s 146th birthday. Toronto’s Juno nominees Tokyo Police Club will headline the annual Alderney Landing concert joined by Halifax’s Gloryhound, PEI’s Paper Lions, and Ontario’s The Elwins. Other acts include Dezza and a surprise special performance following a spectacular fireworks display from Halifax Harbour at 10 p.m.

Take part in pancake breakfasts at the Grand Parade and Alderney Landing, sing Oh Canada from the top of Citadel Hill, watch the Tattoo Parade in downtown Halifax, and enjoy the Maple Lodge Farms Family Fun-Fest on the Halifax Common.

Dartmouth Crossing is hosting a weekend-long party, adding a pre-Canada Day kickoff event on June 29. The kickoff event will feature free food, music and fireworks for the whole family. Find out more about celebrations at Dartmouth Crossing at www.dartmouthcrossing.com.

Official HRM Canada Day events will be running throughout the weekend from June 29 to July 1, and has resulted in Halifax being named the leading destination for Canada Day weekend in Atlantic Canada. This week Hotwire.com announced the top 10 most popular Canada Day destinations based on volume of hotel bookings, and Halifax has joined the ranks of Ottawa, Toronto and New York City as a long weekend destination for North Americans.

Official HRM Canada Day events are being provided at no charge to participants thanks to the generous support of the following sponsors: The Village Shops at Dartmouth Crossing, Canadian Heritage, Molson Coors Canada, Maple Lodge Farms, Pepsi, Holiday Inn Harbourview, CTV, C100/The Bounce, The Chronicle Herald, and Halifax Regional Municipality.
