HRM lifts enforcement of overnight winter parking ban

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – HRM’s Traffic Authority has lifted enforcement of the overnight winter parking ban until further notice.

HRM reminds residents that the overnight winter parking ban is in effect from now until March 31, will only be enforced during declared snow and ice operations and will run from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Please stay informed and plan ahead by securing off-street parking now for when the overnight parking ban will be enforced.

Weather and snow clearing operations will dictate how long it will be enforced and HRM will notify residents when it has been lifted through Public Service Announcements,, 311 and you can follow us on Twitter “@hfxgov”.

This year, HRM is offering residents the option to subscribe to notifications letting them know when the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced. Residents can subscribe to our CityWatch program to receive phone and email messages by emailing or by calling 490-7403 with the following information:

  • Please indicate that you are requesting to sign up for notifications about the overnight winter parking ban
  • You have the option to provide up to two phone numbers and up to two email addresses or a combination of both

Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event. Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.
