HRM will enforce overnight winter parking ban tonight
Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – A winter storm watch has been issued, with the forecast showing rain showers or flurries changing to periods of snow overnight with a risk of freezing rain. HRM’s overnight winter parking ban will be enforced overnight tonight from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. (Friday, March 1). Please ensure your vehicle is off the street and not interfering with snow clearing operations.
The weather and snow clearing operations will dictate how long the overnight ban will be enforced. HRM will continue to notify residents when the ban is in place through Public Service Announcements, halifax.ca, 311 and you can follow us on Twitter “@hfxgov”.
HRM is offering residents the option to subscribe to notifications letting them know when the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced. Residents can subscribe to our CityWatch program to receive phone and email messages by emailing citywatch@halifax.ca or by calling 490-7403 with the following information:
Residents are asked to please not rely on notifications alone. Please also check our website, twitter feed @hfxgov or call our citizen contact centre by dialing 311.
Provincial legislation (Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act) provides that people remove their vehicles from the streets, day or night, in the event of a snow or ice event. Vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations can be removed at the owner’s cost, regardless of time or date.
HRM requests that residents remove any street obstructions whenever possible during snow clearing operations. Items such as basketball nets and organic green carts hinder proper snow clearing and can result in damage to property and equipment.
Thank you for your cooperation.
