HRM to welcome new Poet Laureate

Monday, June 24, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Mayor Mike Savage will officially welcome HRM’s new Poet Laureate at an event to be held at City Hall later this week. The Poet Laureate is a resident poet or spoken word artist who has achieved excellence amongst their peers and whose work is of relevance to the citizens of HRM.

When: Thursday, June 27, 2 p.m.

Where: Halifax Hall, City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax

The new Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term advocating for poetry, language and the arts, and attend events across the Municipality to promote and attract people to the literary world. HRM has been a strong supporter of this program since 2001 when Sue MacLeod stepped into the role of HRM’s first Poet Laureate. Since then the program has continued with Lorri Neilsen Glenn 2005-2009, Shauntay Grant 2009-2010, and Tanya Davis 2011-2012.
