Halifax lands in the Top 20 in main street makeover contest

Monday, July 8, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Today it was revealed that Halifax has won a main street makeover, compliments of the Benjamin Moore paint company.

Through the month of June, Halifax went head-to-head with more than 100 communities across North America in an online vote contest as part of the Main Street Matters project. The top vote-getters earn a fresh coat of paint for three blocks of that community’s main street.

And Halifax used some creative ways to bring attention to the Halifax entry, including a comedic video that pointed out the uncanny resemblance between Halifax Mayor Mike Savage, and contest spokesperson, Brad Pitt.

“The people of Halifax deserve credit for getting behind this fun contest and bringing out a winning vote. Now we can look forward to voting again for our main street,” said Mayor Savage.

A Halifax main street must now be chosen to receive the makeover. In preparation for this possibility, HRM asked the eight Business Improvement Districts to create a shortlist.  Now the final decision is up to voters.

The many fans of Halifax can visit www.halifax.ca/surveys/paintwhatmatters.html to vote online once a day until July 19. The street receiving the most votes will win the Benjamin Moore main street makeover.
