HRM launches ‘Halifax Loves Boston’ condolences

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – In light of this week’s tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon, HRM has placed a book of condolences at City Hall for citizens to sign, and launched a ‘Halifax Loves Boston’ Facebook page. The Facebook page is intended for citizens to express their sympathies by giving a virtual hug to the people of Boston, and posting love letters sharing fond memories of visiting or living in the historic New England city.

Our two cities share a common bond highlighted by the Halifax Explosion in 1917, when Boston sent much needed help to our devastated community. Many families in Halifax and throughout Nova Scotia have ancestral ties to Boston, a city that is also a popular travel destination for Nova Scotians and an important marathon site for our city’s running community.

In the wake of such violent action against innocent people, HRM citizens are looking for a way to show their support and love for a city that did the same for them. Please post your thoughts, stories, family connections and photos at Halifax Loves Boston | Facebook or visit City Hall at 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax, to sign the book of condolences. When the time is right, we will take the Facebook posts and add them to the condolences, which will be sent to the people of Boston.
