Highfield Transit Terminal upgrades and detours
Thursday, June 27, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Beginning on Thursday, July 4, Metro Transit's Highfield Terminal will be closed for several months to enable the construction of a new state-of-the-art terminal for transit passengers.
Following Regional Council’s approval of the required funding in the 2013/14 capital budget, the Highfield Terminal will be completely rebuilt over the next five to seven months, resulting in a much improved facility for both passengers and bus operators. The new, accessible terminal will feature a larger passenger platform, new operator service building, improved outdoor customer information displays, outdoor seating, bike racks and improved lighting and landscaping.
In order to accommodate construction of the new facility, Metro Transit will be closing the Highfield Terminal and implementing detours and additional temporary bus stops to maintain existing service for passengers in the area. Full details of the required detours and locations of temporary bus stops by route can be found at www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/highfieldterminalconstruction.html.
Construction of the new terminal is expected to be complete in January 2014. For full project details, renderings and frequently asked questions visit www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/highfieldterminalconstruction.html.
