HRM educates residents as part of International Compost Awareness Week
Thursday, May 2, 2013 (Halifax) - “Feed the Soil - Compost!” That’s the theme for this year’s International Compost Awareness Week being held from May 6 – 12, 2013.
Join HRM Solid Waste at the Alderney Landing Farmers’ Market on Saturday, May 4 to have your composting questions answered. They will also be giving away seeds and will be drawing for a kitchen compost bin and backyard composter. HRM staff will be at Halifax Shopping Centre on Friday, May 10 rewarding residents who use the multi-stream recycling bins in the mall to sort their waste.
Composting is a natural process through which organic material is converted into a soil-like product called compost. When residents use their green bin or backyard compost, they are diverting resource material away from landfill disposal.
