HRM Birch Cove Beach to receive prestigious Blue Flag Designation
Wednesday, June 26, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – On Thursday, June 27, please join Councillor Gloria McCluskey, representatives from Blue Flag Canada and the community for the raising of the Blue Flag for Birch Cove Beach, in Dartmouth, NS.
The Blue Flag is a highly respected and recognized international voluntary eco-label. Blue Flags are awarded to beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria for water quality, environmental education, environmental management, and safety and services. Blue Flags are currently flying at 17 beaches and 4 marinas in Canada. This is the first beach in HRM and in Nova Scotia to be given this designation.
All are invited to join in the celebration with cake, children’s face-painting, Clean Nova Scotia’s watershed model demonstrating the impact of everyday activities on lakes and streams, music, a visit from Buckles the Lifejacket and of course the beach will be open for some early season swimming.
The event will take place rain or shine.
