Community group invites residents to plant trees and support HRM’s Urban Forest Master Plan

Tuesday, October 1, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – One of HRM’s neighbourhoods is getting support from the Sierra Club Canada-Atlantic Canada Chapter through their local group HRM Diverse, to have 1500 trees planted. The group is supported by Canon Canada, Evergreen Canada, and have been given guidance through HRM’s Urban Forest Master Plan. The Sierra Club has selected a parkland site on Baker Drive in Dartmouth.

Tree planting events organized by community groups support HRM’s Urban Forest Master Plan. The goal of the plan, as approved by Regional Council, is to ensure a sustainable future for HRM’s urban forest. The Plan was developed in cooperation with Dalhousie University’s School for Resource and Environmental Studies after many years of research, public engagement, workshops and reports.

HRM Diverse invites members of the community and local businesses to come out and assist with the tree planting, ensuring that in years to come these trees will beautify the neighbourhood, and offer a protective urban cover. HRM Diverse is a nature education program by the Sierra Club Canada - Atlantic Canada Chapter.

The tree planting will take place:

When: Saturday, October 5, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Where: Baker Drive Park, Dartmouth, N.S. across from Kent

HRM Diverse promises food and fun for the whole family. Bring a shovel, garden gloves, and your green thumb.
