Road Closure/ Transit impacts on St. Margarets Bay Road for rebuilding of Nine Mile Bridge

Wednesday, July 10 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Starting 12:01 a.m. on Monday July 15, 2013, St. Margarets Bay Road, between Brentwood Avenue and Sleepy Hollow Lane, will be closed for approximately six weeks. The closure is to accommodate the construction of a new Nine Mile River Bridge on the St. Margarets Bay Road.

The work includes removing the existing bridge and constructing a new bridge. The new bridge will have wider lanes and a sidewalk on the south side of the bridge. This work will also include a new sidewalk from the new bridge to the Brentwood Avenue. The entire project will take approximately ten weeks.
During the closure of St. Margarets Bay Road, local traffic will be detoured around Highway 103 between exits 3 and 4. The length of the detour is approximately 15 km.

Metro Transit service will also be affected by the detour. Route 21 Lakeside/Timberlea and Route 23 Timberlea/Mumford, will experience detours. Metro Transit has plans in place to continue to provide service to residents in these areas, including the use of Shuttle Bus Service for travellers going to and from Greenwood Heights and Glengary Gardens originating from the Timberlea Village Parkway. For additional details on the Metro Transit service times and schedules for these routes, see: http://www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/service_disruptions.html, , or call #311 for information.

HRM apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this closure/detour may cause.
