As part of Halifax Regional Municipality’s community engagement program for the Solid Waste Resources Strategy Review, the first of eight regional public event sessions begins this evening, Wednesday, September 25 and run until October 24. All events run from 7-9 p.m.
HRM staff is asking for public input to assist Regional Council in making an informed decision about how to improve the solid waste system. The community engagement process is designed to help residents gain a clear understanding of the information available and what is at stake so they can provide feedback on what’s working, what isn’t, and how HRM can deliver the best system possible for many years to come.
The regional public event sessions are designed to both inform and engage. Attendees will learn and share their thoughts – in-person and online via www.shapeyourcityhalifax.ca – on HRM’s solid waste system, options recommended by consultants, and the potential implications of introducing or not introducing those options.
There will be two phases of community engagement sessions, which will be held in four regions. The first round will focus on identifying the public’s key priorities for making changes to the current solid waste system, while the second round will collect specific public feedback on the options being assessed within the strategy review.
At the end of the consultation process a report detailing the feedback of residents will be shared with Regional Council to inform its decisions regarding the future of the solid waste system.
