Work to begin on street renewal of streets surrounding new Central Library

Thursday, June 20, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – HRM Regional Council has awarded a tender to Ocean Contractors Limited for street renewal and the undergrounding of electrical and telecommunication wires. The work will take place on the streets surrounding the new Central Library: Queen Street from Spring Garden Road to Morris Street and the south side of Spring Garden Road from Queen Street to Brunswick Street.

This street renewal project will help to improve the overall urban open space, benefiting both public and private developments.

The scope of work for this tender award includes: new underground ductwork, curb replacement, new traffic signals; new street lights with banner arms; greater sidewalk width, sidewalk renewal with paver inlays; new street furnishings (garbage receptacles, benches, bike racks); and asphalt resurfacing.

The project is expected to start in about three weeks’ time. HRM will issue regular public service announcements as the project unfolds. HRM residents can find more information on the project at: to http://www.halifax.ca/designcon/cons/QueenStInfrastructureRenewal.html.
