Full Day of Free Events Planned for Canada Day Celebrations

Thursday, June 26, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents are encouraged to wear their best red and white and come out for a full day of family fun celebrating Canada’s 147th birthday on Tuesday, July 1.

The festivities get going with pancake breakfasts at Grand Parade in Halifax and Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, followed by the singing of the national anthem from the top of Citadel Hill. Events continue with the Tattoo Parade through downtown Halifax, the Maple Lodge Farms Family Fun-Fest on the Halifax Common and what promises to be the biggest Canada Day concert ever held at Alderney Landing.

Six-time Juno Award-winning Sam Roberts Band is headlining the free concert, which will also feature performances by acts from across the country, including July Talk from Toronto, A Belle Game out of Vancouver, and Halifax’s own Ben Caplan & the Casual Smokers, and Alert the Medic.

Canada Day wouldn’t be complete without a spectacular fireworks display from Halifax Harbour. The fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. and residents are advised that Alderney Landing will provide the best view.

Metro Transit is pleased to once again offer free ferry service from all its terminals on Canada Day. In lieu of a fare, Metro Transit is asking passengers to support FEED NOVA SCOTIA by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation. FEED NOVA SCOTIA staff and volunteers will be at the Woodside, Alderney and Halifax ferry terminals to collect any donations.

For detailed ferry schedules on July 1, please visit http://www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/CanadaDayFerryService.php.
