Alderney Ferry Terminal Renovations, Impact to Sunday Service

Wednesday, April 2, 2014 –Sunday ferry service will be impacted by ongoing renovations to the Alderney Ferry Terminal in Dartmouth in the coming weeks. The ferry will not be running on Sundays in order to complete tile work and overhead work on the ferry ramp.  The work will start on Sunday, April 6 and is anticipated to run on consecutive Sundays for approximately 4 weeks.

During this time, Metro Transit will provide bus shuttles between Alderney and Water Street running on the same schedule as the ferry, as an alternate to the ferry. Regular fare will be charged for this shuttle service.

Dartmouth shuttle to Halifax: The shuttle bus to Halifax will depart from the #54 bus stop in front of the Alderney Gate Building south bound. A sign “Halifax Ferry Shuttle” will identify the stop as the ferry shuttle. The shuttle will depart this stop every thirty minutes starting at 11:00 a.m. with the last shuttle leaving for Halifax at 18:00.

Halifax shuttle to Dartmouth: The shuttle to Dartmouth will depart from Ferry Boat Lane, at the Water Street Terminal. A sign “Dartmouth Ferry Shuttle” will identify the stop as the ferry shuttle. The shuttle will depart from this stop every thirty minutes starting at 11:15 a.m. with the last shuttle leaving for Dartmouth at 18:15 and arriving at Alderney Gate at 18:27.

The shuttles will not service any stops along the route.

Halifax Bound Shuttle Route: From Alderney Drive turn left on King street, left on Queen St, right on Alderney Drive, continue on Wyse Road, left on the MacDonald Bridge, to Barrington Street, left on George Street into the Water Street Terminal.

Dartmouth Bound Shuttle Route: Right from Ferry Boat Lane, straight on Water Street, to Cogswell Street, right on Gottingen Street, right on North Street, straight on the MacDonald Bridge, right on Wyse Road, left on Alderney Drive, to the route # 54 stop.

These ongoing renovations to the Alderney Ferry Terminal are intended to improve traffic flow, increase the attractiveness of the terminal space, and improve overall customer experience and satisfaction.

HRM and Metro Transit apologize in advance for any inconvenience this construction may cause.
