Bad Weather, Slippery Roads Expected to Continue into Evening Commute

Tuesday, April 1, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents to slow down and drive carefully on the evening commute as bad weather and slippery road conditions persist across the region.

A mix of precipitation is expected throughout the rest of the day and into this evening. Crews have been out all day clearing, salting and sanding, and will continue to cycle through their routes overnight, as required.

Priority 1 roads are mostly bare but bands of flurries and ice pellets continue to make road surfaces slippery. Crews will start clearing Priority 2 (residential) roads overnight.

Sidewalk crews are out now and will work through the evening and overnight to clear, salt and sand the sidewalks.

Commuters are asked to remember that road conditions are subject to rapid shifts, as the air temperature and precipitation is varied across the Halifax region. Drivers should adjust their speeds accordingly and expect delays on the drive home.
