Chain of Lakes and Beechville, Lakeside, Timberlea Trails - Construction Update

Friday, May 30, 2014 – Dexter Construction, on behalf of Halifax Water, is undertaking construction activity along the BLT and Chain of Lakes trails related to the Lakeside Pump Station Diversion Project.

This work has required the closure of sections of the trail to allow construction activity to take place. The reopened and disrupted sections are as follows:

• Commencing Saturday, May 31, the BLT Trail between Lakeside Park Drive and Raines Mill Road will reopen for use on weekends and week day evenings. Final gravel work and landscaping remains to be completed the week of June 2-6 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The trail will be closed during this period.

• Chain of Lakes Trail CLOSED from Lakeside Park Drive (Coca-Cola facility) to Chain Lake Drive until June 30. A series of bypass detour trails have been established to direct trail users from Lakeside Park Drive through to Chain Lake Drive.

• The Chain of Lakes Trail CLOSED from Chain Lake Drive to Brook Street until Sept. 8 due to time of year work restrictions within the sensitive watershed section. Unfortunately, trail detours were not possible for this section.

• The Chain of Lakes Trail CLOSED from Brook Street to the Ashburn Golf Course entrance until July 23. A bypass detour route has been established over this section.

Based on the current accelerated project progress it is anticipated that some sections of the trail presently closed could reopen ahead of the scheduled dates noted above.

Full Lakeside Diversion Project details can be found anytime at www.lakesidediversion.com.

Halifax Water regrets any inconvenience these temporary closures may cause.
