Halifax Public Gardens To Open Earlier in the Morning
Friday, May 30, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The early bird gets the worm and starting Monday, June 2, early risers in Halifax will also get to stroll through the Public Gardens starting at 7 a.m.
In response to residents’ requests, the Halifax Regional Municipality is changing the long-time practice of opening at 8 a.m. The closing time will remain the same; people enjoying the Gardens will be asked to leave 30 minutes prior to sunset in order for the gates to be locked.
The Public Gardens is open daily between early April and November.
The Gardens is one of the finest surviving examples of Victorian gardens in North America. Established in 1874, the Public Gardens came about by amalgamating two older gardens — the Nova Scotia Horticultural Society Garden, laid out in 1837, and an adjacent public park that had opened in 1866.
The Public Gardens was recognized as a National Historic Site in 1984.
