Open House on Hollis Street Bike Lane
Monday, June 23, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents and business owners are invited to attend an open house Thursday, June 26, on the proposed design of the Hollis Street bike lane and the related changes to parking and loading zones along the street.
The open house sessions will be held from noon-2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. in the front lobby of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, 1723 Hollis St. Residents can drop in at their convenience to view the plans and speak to municipal staff.
The Hollis Street and Lower Water Street bike lanes were initiated through HRMbyDesign and developed through public consultation as part of the downtown street network changes implemented in the fall of 2011. The Hollis Street bike lane is the final element of this project, which will be completed later this year.
Key features of the project include:
• A painted bike lane on the right (west) side of the street from just south of Cogswell Street to South Street.
• On-street parking, loading and stopping will be permitted on the left (east) side of the street only, from Cogswell to Morris Street. Various time limitations will be applied.
• Parking, stopping and loading will be available on both sides of the street from Morris to South Street.
Some loading zones, accessible parking spaces and taxi stands will be relocated. Residents and business owners are encouraged to share their comments to ensure the plan for parking and loading on the street meets their needs.
For those unable to attend in person, go to http://shapeyourcityhalifax.ca/hollis-street-bicycle-lane to view the materials from the open house and participate in the discussion. Residents and business owners can also contact Hanita Koblents, Active Transportation Co-ordinator, at 902-490-8474 or by email at koblenh@halifax.ca.
