Reminder of Ongoing Construction on North Park Street
Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Students and residents returning to school and work next week are advised to plan their route accordingly if they usually travel through the area of North Park Street in Halifax.
North Park remains closed between Cunard and Cogswell streets as construction continues on the first of two roundabouts in the area. The street is expected to reopen the second week of September, barring any weather delays.
There will be further closures on sections of North Park Street and the surrounding streets once this first stage of Phase 1 nears completion. Details of those closures will be shared with the public as they are confirmed in the coming days.
Motorists are urged to plan ahead now to find alternative routes while this work is going on. For pedestrians, the sidewalk on the east side of North Park Street remains closed between Cunard and Cornwallis streets. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to use the active transportation path on the Halifax Common that runs along the length of North Park Street.
Residents are also reminded that earlier this week crews relocated the crosswalk and street signage that was located at the intersection of North Park and Cornwallis streets, in order to install underground power utilities. For approximately the next two weeks the crosswalk will be located 60 feet to the south, closer to the Cogswell Street intersection.
This work has affected some Metro Transit bus routes, which will continue to be rerouted until the project is complete. For information on those routes and the detours, please visit http://www.halifax.ca/metrotransit/ServiceDisruptions.php.
The municipality appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation, and apologizes for any inconvenience this closure and the ongoing construction may cause.
This is a two-year project, beginning with construction of the roundabout at Cunard Street, which is on schedule to open by Oct. 31, 2014. The second roundabout at the intersection of North Park, Cogswell, Rainnie, Trollope and Ahern streets will be built in 2015.
