Road Closures - Bell Aliant Natal Day Festival

Wednesday, July 30, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that there will be a number of road closures throughout Halifax and Dartmouth during the Bell Aliant Natal Day Festival (July 31-Aug. 4).

Starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, Cogswell Street will be closed between Robie Street and North Park Street for various Natal Day events on the Halifax South Common. There will be no parking on that stretch of Cogswell Street during the closure. The street will reopen at about 11 p.m. on Sunday.

On Monday, Aug. 4, the following streets will be closed:

  • Young Street between Gottingen Street and Isleville Street from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the Natal Day Pancake Breakfast at Hydrostone Park;
  • Crichton Avenue between Dahlia Street and Ochterloney Street from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the Natal Day Family Day at Sullivan’s Pond;
  • Prince Albert Road between Hawthorne Street and Sinclair Street from 3 p.m. to midnight for the Natal Day fireworks on Banook Lake;

There will also be closures on a number of streets Monday to accommodate the Natal Day Road Race and the Natal Day Parade through downtown Halifax and Dartmouth.

Starting at 6:30 a.m., Ochterloney Street will be closed at the intersection with Alderney Drive to prevent parking near the start line of the road race. The two-mile and six-mile races both begin at 8 a.m. Runners will travel along Ochterloney Street, left onto Crichton Avenue, right onto Hawthorne Street, right onto Portland Street, left onto Alderney Drive and finally right onto Ochterloney. The six-mile participants will run this loop three times.

Some of the affected streets will reopen to traffic and parking when the races are finished, at about 10 a.m. However, Ochterloney will remain closed until about noon as it is part of the parade route.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. in Halifax. The route goes south along Novalea Drive and Gottingen Street, left onto North Street, across the Macdonald Bridge, right onto Wyse Road, continuing along Alderney Drive, left onto Ochterloney Street, ending at Crichton Avenue and dispersing on Prince Albert Road.

There will be no traffic or parking on the parade route. The affected streets will reopen at about noon.
