Road Closures – Switch: Open Streets Event

Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – A number of streets in downtown Dartmouth will be closed on Sunday, Aug. 24, for Switch: Open Streets.

Starting at noon, Portland Street will be closed from Alderney Drive to Prince Albert Road, as well as Prince Albert from Portland to Sinclair Street. All affected streets will reopen at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Motorists are advised that due to the closures, the traffic signals at Prince Albert and Hawthorne Street will be turned off and the intersection will be controlled by Halifax Regional Police.

Switch: Open Streets is not about street closures – it is about opening streets to a greater variety of transportation modes. The event is meant to encourage people to enjoy the Halifax region in a new way by walking, biking and moving around safely and comfortably on a two-kilometre route.
