Rolling Street Closures - Maritime Race Weekend

Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that there will be rolling street closures and minor traffic delays in Eastern Passage this weekend to accommodate the thousands of runners taking part in Maritime Race Weekend events.

The 5K run is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Fishermen’s Cove on Friday, Sept. 12. At 6:55 p.m., RCMP will shut down Shore Road between Quigley’s Corner and Caldwell Road to clear the area of traffic for the start of the race. The street will be closed for about 30 minutes to allow all the runners to cross the start line and get around the first bend at the intersection of Caldwell Road.

As the runners continue along the route, there will be rolling street closures, about 15-20 minutes in length, along Caldwell Road and Shore Road. These rolling closures are expected to continue until about 8 p.m. and RCMP will be on hand to control traffic.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, the 10K, half marathon and full marathon events will begin at 8 a.m. at Fisherman’s Cove. Again, RCMP will shut down Shore Road between Quigley’s Corner and Caldwell Road for about 30 minutes starting at 7:55 a.m. to allow the races to begin.

For Saturday’s events, there will be rolling street closures throughout the day, until about 3 p.m., on Caldwell Road, Cow Bay Road, Dyke Road, Cherylann Drive and Shore Road. These closures will be a few minutes at a time and again, RCMP will be there to facilitate.

Motorists and cyclists are asked to slow their speeds accordingly and pay extra attention when travelling through the race area on Friday and Saturday.

These races will affect the #60 Eastern Passage bus route. For more information on the detours in place Friday night and Saturday, please visit the Metro Transit Service Disruptions page.
