Streets, Sidewalks Extremely Slippery, Travel with Caution
Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 (Halifax, NS) - The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents to be extremely careful if they have to travel today, as the streets and sidewalks are still very icy from last night's storm.
Changing weather conditions throughout the night made clearing the streets and sidewalks a challenge.
Crews were out overnight and will continue to work throughout the day to clear and salt the streets and sidewalks. However, weather conditions will continue to be challenging.
There are freezing rain, flash freezing and wind warnings in effect for the Halifax region. Forecasts are calling for more rain changing to periods of snow and local blowing snow. The temperature is expected to fall to -6 degrees Celcius this afternoon, which means much of that rain will freeze.
Motorists are advised to slow down accordingly if they need to be on the roads today, and pedestrians and cyclists should be equally cautious when traveling.
