Alderney Ferry Terminal Renovations, Impact to Passenger Waiting Area

Friday, January 24, 2014 - Upgrades to the Alderney Ferry Terminal in Dartmouth will begin on Monday, January 27. Although the actual ferry service is not expected to be impacted by the construction, the work will impact how passengers embark and disembark from the ferries.

During construction, the current Passenger Waiting Area will be closed for approximately 16 weeks. Metro Transit will transition to an alternate Passenger Waiting Area. Staff will be on site to direct passengers:
• Passengers embarking the ferry will be directed to a temporary Passenger Waiting Area located in Alderney Landing in the vicinity of the escalator.
• Passengers disembarking the ferry will be directed to their destinations by signage and staff.

Passengers are advised that there may be noise, dust and fumes present during the construction.

The upgrades will improve traffic flow, increase attractiveness of the terminal space, and improve overall customer experience and satisfaction. The work includes:
• Construction of new relocated and upgraded washrooms (alternate washrooms located in the Alderney Landing Building)
• Construction of the new main entrance vestibule, completed with the automatic sliding doors.
• Interior renovation of passenger area, including new floor tiles, ceilings completed with new lighting fixtures, new furniture and display cabinets.
• The project, also involved renovating, upgrading and expanding former escalator space not currently in use, into new HRM office space.

HRM and Metro Transit apologize in advance for any inconvenience this construction may cause.
