Street Closures/ Impact to Metro Transit service during Bluenose Marathon, May 17, 18

Thursday, May 15, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – Residents are advised that due to the Bluenose Marathon weekend Saturday May 17, 2014 and Sunday May 18, 2014, there will be street closures, traffic disruptions, and parking restrictions. There will also be impacts to Metro Transit Service for buses and an extension of the Alderney route ferry service on Sunday, May 18.

Street Closures:
Brunswick Street between Cogswell Street and Sackville Street will be closed 8a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Sackville Street from Brunswick Street to South Park Street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Cogswell Street will be closed between Gottingen Street and Brunswick Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Nantucket Avenue will be closed between Wyse Road and Victoria Road from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The curb lane on Barrington Street from Devonshire Avenue to North Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

The Macdonald Bridge will be closed to vehicles from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Motorists are advised that in addition to these closures, runners will be on the street. Motorists are advised to take extra time if traveling around any of these locations. Motorists are also advised that there will be parking restrictions by means of bagged parking meters or Special Event signage. Vehicles will be towed from these locations.

Metro Transit:

Metro Transit is pleased to offer extended Alderney ferry service on Sunday, May 18 to support Bluenose Marathon participants. Extended Sunday service will be offered as follows: 

Alderney to Halifax
6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (every 30 minutes) 

Halifax to Alderney
6:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. (every 30 minutes)

Bluenose Marathon runners with running bibs and Bluenose Marathon volunteers with credentials may ride the bus and ferry for free on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18.
