Traffic Advisory – Christmas Daddies Navy Diver Run
Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that there may be some traffic delays throughout the city on Saturday, Dec. 6, as dozens of members of the Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic) and their families take part in a 50-kilometre run to raise money for the annual Christmas Daddies Telethon.
Starting at 9:15 a.m., groups of runners will be escorted by police as they make their way from 12 Wing Shearwater to the CTV Atlantic studio on Robie Street in Halifax. The run is expected to wrap up by 4:30 p.m.
The run is broken into three legs. The first begins at the Shearwater Aviation Museum and will proceed northwest on Route 322 and Pleasant Street, northeast on Prince Arthur Avenue, east on Portland Street, north on Forest Hills Drive, west on Main Street into the parking lot at Smitty’s Family Restaurant.
From there the runners will be bused to the next starting point, at the intersection of Sackville Drive and Cobequid Road. The group will run northwest on Sackville Drive to Downsview Mall, then reverse back to the corner of Sackville and Cobequid.
Finally, the runners will be bused to the Royal Canadian Legion, Bedford Branch 95, on the Bedford Highway. For this last leg, the group will run south along the Bedford Highway, southeast on Kempt Road, east on Young Street and south on Robie Street, finishing at the CTV studio.
Halifax Regional Police will be on hand at all locations to help direct traffic and ensure the safety of participants. Motorists are asked to slow down and keep an eye out for the runners as they travel through the aforementioned areas on Saturday.
This is the 27th year that the Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic) has taken part in Christmas Daddies. The telethon raises money to provide gifts, clothing and food for less fortunate children and their families during the Christmas season. For more information, please visit www.christmasdaddies.org.
