Urban Forest Street Tree Pruning – Bell Road

Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – As part of the implementation of HRM’s recently adopted Urban Forest Master Plan, street tree pruning will start on Bell Road between Sackville Street and Robie Street on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

The Urban Forest Master Plan outlines the value in being proactive with street tree pruning activities. Damage to street trees – as well as nearby utility lines – can be avoided with more regular cycles of tree pruning, rather than simply reacting on an “as-needed” basis whenever there is a problem. Regular pruning can also extend the life and improve the canopy of street trees.

Weather permitting, work along Bell Road is expected to be completed by Friday, Feb. 7, and will take place throughout the week between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Bell Road will be open to traffic during those hours, however, there will be temporary lane closures while the pruning takes place. Pedestrians may also experience some delays due to temporary sidewalk closures.

Motorists are reminded to reduce their speed when entering the work area. Some temporary delays may occur and drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes. HRM apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
